A 3 week old is expected to wake up to feed about every 2-3 hours. Baby's at this age are too young to "cry it out." Given that, a baby is allowed to fuss a couple minutes or so when they are first put down into their bassinet to sleep. Put yourself down to nap when the baby naps. Invite people into your house who will do your dishes and let you nap— kick everyone else out. If you start feeling resentful of the baby or find yourself sad and depressed you have postpartum depression- let your doctors know right away.
These two posts will help with your questions - take care:
I have a 3 week old baby. He won't sleep in his bassinet. I've tried swaddling, rocking, white noise, establishing a bedtime, and nothing is working. He only sleeps if he's being held on your chest. Any suggestions on how to get him to sleep in his bed, even if it is only for a few hours? He tends to grunt and gargle once you lay him down. I'll take any advice.

I have a whole website devoted to teaching parents how to get their children to like a wide variety of healthy foods. It addresses picky eating, overweight children, junk food eaters, and other topics. I use research-based information, but present it in a way that is accessible to parents. Please check it out at http://smartparentprogram.blogspot.com/ .

OMG, this was the most eye opening post I've read this week. I've always been suspicious of those nasty kitchen sponges, especially after a few weeks of usage when they start to smell weird, and I can't help thinking I am going to eat and drink from those things I'm washing with a smelly piece of whatever it is (usually plastic). Thanks for reminding us what not to do in the kitchen. We seem to forget bacteria love this part of the house as much as the bathroom, and we should be careful.
Best wishes, Flora

Lillianna, If you mean "terribly important" then I agree. Its frightening to me to see diseases like measles and whooping cough making a comeback because parents are opting not to vaccinate their kids. It will be great when polio and other vaccine preventable diseases are finally eliminated, but until then people need to keep vaccinating, both for the sake of their own children and for general public health. Thanks Drs Kardos and Lai for another great article on this topic!
